Tom Powers, Vice Chair

Tom retired in 2011 after serving 36 years as a family practice physician in Williamsburg. He was the senior physician of Sentara New Town Family Physicians. He then spent 3 more years as a clinical investigator with The Riverside Center for Excellence in Aging. He monitored patients in trials involving new pharmaceutical agents.

Tom served two terms as president of the Conservancy’s Board from 2000-2002.

He is a graduate of the College of William & Mary with a degree in Biology. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He did his internship and residency at Riverside Hospital.

HIs wife, Barbara, is also a graduate of William and Mary and has a degree in medical technology from the Medical College of Virginia. She is currently a tutor at Literacy for Life. They have 2 children and 4 grandchildren.
