Historic Virginia Land Conservancy Names New Executive Director

The Historic Virginia Land Conservancy (HVLC) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the selection of Patrice Sadler as Executive Director to succeed Caren Schumacher, who will retire on December 31, 2017.

Sadler is currently the HVLC’s Land Stewardship and Operations Manager and has been with the organization for the past four and a half years. “I am humbled and honored to have been selected as the HVLC’s next Executive Director, only the sixth in the organization’s history,” said Sadler. “I look forward to continuing to grow the organization and increase the number of acres of protected land in our region.”

Prior to joining the HVLC staff in March of 2013, Sadler was business manager for Williamsburg Estate Planning, a law practice owned and operated by her and her husband, John. Sadler’s wide array of business management duties over those years, including personnel, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, taxes and insurance, workshops and advertising were strengths she brought to the Conservancy when she joined the staff.

“The HVLC Board of Directors is looking forward to working with Patrice,” said Travis Crayosky, HVLC Board Chair. He continued, “she is enthusiastic and has new ideas that will keep the organization growing.”

“The Board is grateful to the Search Committee for their work in recommending Sadler,” said Crayosky. The committee was chaired by HVLC Advisory Board member, Don Baker. HVLC Board members Tom Powers and Susan Chamberlain, and volunteer Mark Howell were members of the committee.

Sadler’s career began as a casualty underwriter in commercial insurance, and she held both company and agency positions spanning a decade, in Michigan and Virginia. She maintains two insurance licenses.

She and her husband John have resided in Williamsburg since 1994. They are the proud parents of two boys, one who attends Virginia Commonwealth University and the other who attends James Madison University.
