JAMES CITY COUNTY COMPRESHENSIVE PLAN 2009 UPDATE
The Conservancy actively participated in the 2003 James City County Comp Plan Update, and 2009 will be no different! Two of the Conservancy’s Board members, Bob Keith and Rich Krapf serve on the county’s Community Participation Team (CPT). According to the county, the CPT is one of two main groups, and the only citizen-based group, designated to help lead staff and the Planning Commission through the review and update of the Comprehensive Plan. The group is responsible for developing, encouraging, facilitating, and reporting citizen participation throughout the process. The primary products of the team are assistance to staff in the development and coordination of publicity efforts and putting together a report on the plan review process and the citizen feedback received
The CPT has organized four CPT Forums to be held in July in order to allow citizen organizations to give a presentation of their thoughts and ideas for the County’s Comprehensive Plan update. The Conservancy will participate in a forum on July 31st .
Recently, the Conservancy’s Board identified five priority areas they will be evaluating for input during the comp plan update. Each of the priorities selected tie back to the Conservancy’s mission of protecting and preserving significant natural, scenic, agricultural and historic land in the James and York River watersheds. The five priorities are:
1. Protection of the Governor’s Land Archaeological District.
2. Active implementation of Purchase of Development Rights (PDR) program.
3. Complete the implementation of Greenways Master Plan.
4. Effective Primary Service Area boundaries.
